SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect – smart pet door FAQs

Can my pet use a SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect without a microchip?
The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect will require either an existing microchip or a Sure Petcare RFDI Collar Tag to work. We recommend that you use your pet’s existing microchip, but it can also be used with a Sure Petcare RFID Collar Tag that easily attaches to your pet’s collar (included in the box). Always make sure to use a breakaway collar for cats if microchipping isn’t an option.
How does the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect know my pet’s microchip number?
When you activate the learn mode on any of our products, it unlocks the pet door. As your pet passes through the door the product reads their microchip and permanently stores the unique ID number in its memory. From that point forward, whenever your pet approaches the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect, it will instantly recognise them and allow access. See the product manual for more details.
How long is the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect battery life?
The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect is powered by 4 x C Cell (LR14) batteries. When using the recommended batteries, it offers a typical battery life of 6 months. An LED light will flash red every 4-5 seconds when it is time to replace the batteries. This flashing will persist for several days or weeks before the batteries are fully depleted. For optimal battery life, it is advised to use high-quality, non-rechargeable batteries. We recommend that you replace the batteries as soon as the LED light starts to flash.
What size pet is suitable for the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect?
The SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect is suitable for small dogs and large cats that are over the weight of 5kg. If your cat is under the weight of 5kg, you may want to consider a SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect instead, which has a smaller tunnel and door.
Does the SureFlap Pet Door Connect need the Hub?
Yes, the Sure Petcare Hub connects your SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect to the Sure Petcare App so you can control the pet door remotely and receive the notifications when your pet enters or exits the home. With the ability to add 60 Sure Petcare Connect devices, you only need one Hub per household, should you have other Sure Petcare app-connected products in your home, such as Felaqua Connect or SureFlap Microchip Pet Feeder Connect.
What are the locking options on the Microchip Pet Door Connect?
The manual lock on the pet door allows you to lock the product manually, you can also lock the pet door using the remote locking mode on the Sure Petcare App. The App also allows you to set a curfew locking mode. The curfew mode allows you to set a lock and unlock time for the pet door so that your pets with outdoor access can go outside only for a set period of the day. Once you’ve set a curfew time, the pet door will lock and unlock at these times every day until you change or disable it.
