SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect – smart cat flap FAQs

My cat is not microchipped, can they still use SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect?
We recommend that you use the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect with your cat’s existing microchip, however, if your cat is not microchipped it can also be used with a Sure Petcare RFID Collar Tag which can be purchased separately. This product will not work without either a microchip or collar tag. Always make sure to use a breakaway collar if microchipping isn’t an option.
How does the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect know my pet’s microchip number?
When the learn mode is activated on the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect it grants access by unlocking. As your pet passes through the cat flap the product reads their microchip and securely stores its unique ID number in its memory. Subsequently, whenever your pet approaches the product in the future, they will be automatically recognised and granted access. See the product manual for more details.
How long will the batteries last?
The SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect operates using 4 x AA (LR6) batteries. The typical battery life is up to 6 months. When the batteries need to be changed, the LED on the product will flash red approximately every 4-5 seconds, we recommend changing the batteries as soon as the LED starts to flash but flashing will continue for several days or weeks before the batteries are completely drained. It is important to note that battery usage can be minimised by following proper cleaning procedures and ensuring correct battery placement. To optimise battery life for the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect, it is recommended to use high-quality, non-rechargeable batteries such as Energizer or Duracell and regularly clean the cat flap so the sensors are not continually reading and draining the battery.
What size cat is suitable for the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect?
The SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect is suitable for all small to medium sized cats. If you have a large cat over the weight of 5kg you may want to consider a SureFlap Microchip Pet Door Connect instead, which allows for an extra width and height of the tunnel.
Do I need the Hub for the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect?
Yes, the Sure Petcare Hub connects your SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect to the Sure Petcare App so you can control the cat flap remotely and receive the notifications when your cat enters or exits the home. With the ability to add up to 60 Sure Petcare Connect devices, you only need 1 Hub per household, should you have other Sure Petcare products in your home that use the app, such as Felaqua Connect or SureFlap Microchip Pet Feeder Connect.
What are the locking options on the Microchip Cat Flap Connect?
You can lock the SureFlap Microchip Cat Flap Connect using the 4-way rotary manual lock or remotely using the lock-in, lock-out or lock in both directions controls in Sure Petcare App. You can also apply up to four curfew mode locking times which can only be implemented using the Sure Petcare App. The curfew mode allows you to set a lock and unlock time for the cat flap so that your cats with outdoor access can go outside only for a set period of the day. At the allotted lock time, the cat flap will be set to the ‘keep inside’ locking mode, so your cat will still be able to enter the house but won’t be able to leave again. Once you’ve set a curfew time, the cat flap will lock and unlock at these times every day until you change or disable it, curfews are in place for all cats in the house. If you set the curfew mode via the app, you must have the rotary lock set to position 1 (manual rotary lock unlocked position).
