SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap FAQs

My pet isn’t microchipped, can it use the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap?
We recommend you use the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap in conjunction with your pet’s implanted microchip so that they don’t need to wear a collar. However, this product can also be used with a SureFlap RFID Collar Tag if your pet is not microchipped. Collar tags are not supplied with the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap but can be purchased separately.
How does the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap know my pet’s microchip number?
All Sure Petcare products utilise a passive learning technique. By activating the learn mode on the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap it will unlock. As your cat passes through the door the product will read their microchip or Sure Petcare RFID Collar Tag and permanently store its unique ID number in its memory. From then on, whenever your pet approaches the product, they will be instantly recognised by it. See the product manual for further details.
Do I need more than one SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap in my home?
Many people don’t think beyond having more than one cat flap in their home and don’t realise that having multiple cat flaps could benefit their cat’s wellbeing. Multiple entry and exit points for your cat can reduce their stress levels, as cats can avoid each other more easily, if necessary, especially in homes where cats don’t get on. How long will the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap last until the batteries run out?
Typical battery life is over 6 months and, in some cases, up to 12 months with normal use. The battery warning LED on the product will flash red every 4-5 seconds when the batteries need changing. Battery usage can be extended by following proper and regular cleaning. The SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap requires 4 x AA (LR6) batteries.
Will my cat flap “forget” my cat’s microchip number when the batteries are changed?
No, the microchip number of a pet remains stored in the memory of the SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap, regardless of whether the batteries are present or not.
Is my cat too big for a SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap?
The SureFlap DualScan Microchip Cat Flap is designed to accommodate small to medium sized cats. However, if you have a large cat weighing over 5kg, it would be advisable to consider the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door instead. This alternative option provides additional width and height within the tunnel, ensuring a more comfortable fit for larger cats, however the SureFlap Microchip Pet Door does not use DualScan technology and does not allow for specific pet permissions.
